Program
George Frideric HANDEL - Ariodante ( Opera en trois actes HWV 33/Livret d’Antonio Salvi )
Even though it is one of Handel’s most "popular" operas, Ariodante had up until now never been performed by Les Arts Florissants. It is thanks to this drama in music that the composer became successful from the outset of his first season at Covent Garden. The libretto takes us to medieval Scotland and tells of the love of Ginevra and Ariodante which the jealousy of Polinesso tries to disrupt. To give life to this summit of Hendelian Bel Canto, this new production brings together with Christophe Dumaux, laureate of the first edition of the Jardin des Voix, a cast of singers who are mostly collaborating with Les Arts Florissants for the first time – as is the case with stage director David McVicar.
In association with the concert
On 11th March 2017 at the Philharmonie de Paris, a Music Lesson will be given by William Christie with instrumentalists from Les Arts Florissants on their interpretation of this masterpiece by Handel. Learn more
