The “Les Arts Florissants” collection from Les Éditions des Abbesses
Directed by William Christie, the “Les Arts Florissants” collection from Les Éditions des Abbesses is making hitherto unpublished early music works, both sacred and secular and central to the ensemble’s repertoire, available to amateurs and professionnals alike.
Launched in October 2004, this collection today comprises 9 titles: 5 short operas by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, 1 opera by Lully and 3 motets by Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville, opening the “French religious music” series.

In forthcoming seasons, the French music series will be developed through the addition of a new work for théâtre by Charpentier and the launch of a series dedicated to secular French music (the first volume of which will be Airs de Michel Lambert (1689)).
Original editorial criteria are being applied in all the titles in this collection, calling into question current modern practices. The realization of the scores is faithful to the original sources as well as to the basic principles of period notation, allowing each student to form their own interpretation, a prerequisite of this genre of music.
The scholarly edition of all the volumes in the “Les Arts Florissants” collection is overseen by a committee chaired by William Christie and Fannie Vernaz and made up of specialists, musicians, musicologists, translators and editors (John Powell, Sébastien Daucé, Catherine Massip, Benoît Hartoin, Pascal Duc etc.).
The honorary committee of the collection comprises H. Wiley Hitchcock †, Andrew Parmley and Dominique Visse.
The first six volumes of this collection were published between 2004 and 2010 with the support of the Fondation Louis D. of the Institut de France.
