Master class Christie Juilliard 2016

The Juilliard School of New York

Since 2007, Les Arts Florissants has had an exceptional partnership with the most prestigious conservatory in the United States: the Juilliard School in New York.

Residences on both sides of the Atlantic

Each year, William Christie and Paul Agnew are hosted at The Juilliard School for periods of residency. In return, the school's students are invited to the Festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie, which offers them the opportunity to work, exchange and perform in an exceptional setting with more experienced musicians as well as with the young singers of the Jardin des Voix. From now on, the collaboration is enriched by a second annual invitation of the students to Thiré with a pedagogical residency in the spring, and is also extended to the singing and dancing classes according to the projects.

Integrating young artists into the Ensemble

Some former students of the Juilliard School are now regular collaborators of Les Arts Florissants: Douglas Balliett (double bass), Emmanuel Resche (violin), Augusta Mckay Lodge (violin), Hugo Abraham (double bass), Edson Scheid (violin), Liv Heym (violin), Jeffrey Girton (violin), Jessica Niles (soprano), Shakèd Bar (soprano)...

A historic partnership

This partnership, first initiated by William Christie's visit to New York as a guest teacher, was the basis for a major development: the creation of an early music department at the Juilliard School in 2009. While early music was not previously taught at the school, it is now a full part of the curriculum, offering a new generation of American musicians the opportunity to develop their skills in this repertoire.

Through this partnership, the Juilliard School is making a powerful contribution to the renewal of American musical life. The presence of Les Arts Florissants at the Juilliard School has been of exemplary fruitfulness and now favors the development of privileged exchanges between the United States and France in the field of baroque music.
