Marked by the irreversible modernity of Monteverdi, le bel canto had an opulent golden age throughout the XVII and XVII centuries. Naturally the art of singing is linked to the history of Italian opera which, long before the 1700s had become in the Italian peninsular a grand spectacle, pretext for vocal pyrotechnic and for which the main aim was to please a varied public. But in the shade of these large and opulent forms, some more intimate styles existed.
