Belshazzar - Handel

 
 

Les Editions Arts Florissants launched their collection with the Ensemble’s version of Belshazzar by Handel. The work, of which very few recordings exist, is one of the summits of Handelian oratorio. 

This box set includes a specially commissioned text by Jean Echenoz, “In Babylon.”

The work

Belshazzar is an oratorio in three acts by George Frideric Handel (1685–1759). Premièred in 1745, it is based on a libretto by Charles Jennens.
